UPDATE FOR: Community participation that is needed for a Clean Energy Task Force
The Genesee/Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council (G/FLRPC) is pleased to announce the commencement of a Comprehensive Climate Action Plan for the nine-County Genesee-Finger Lakes Region, funded through a Climate Pollution Reduction Grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Building off the Priority Climate Action Plan, which was developed in early 2024 and focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions in three sectors (Municipal Operations, Transportation, and Buildings), this Comprehensive Climate Action Plan will collaboratively define goals and strategies to reduce regional greenhouse gas emissions and climate pollution across all sectors.
The development of the climate action plans will help the region tackle damaging climate pollution while supporting the creation of good jobs and lowering energy costs for families; accelerate work to address environmental injustice and empower community-driven solutions in overburdened neighborhoods; and deliver cleaner air by reducing harmful air pollution in places where people live, work, play, and go to school.

Background information for this initiative:
The Canadice Town Board welcomed representatives from the NYS Clean Energy Communities (CEC) and Climate Smart Communities (CSC) ahead of their regular meeting Monday August 14, 2023. Several projects including the Town Hall’s geothermal heating and cooling system and several highway projects were eligible for points and grant funding through the two agencies.
Next, the Town needs to establish a Clean Energy Task Force that will include residents and other Town stakeholders. The task force will receive support from CEC and CSC regional managers to explore emerging clean energy technologies for the Town and opportunities for residents to incorporate clean energy into their daily lives, homes, and businesses.
If you are interested in joining the effort to build a clean energy future in for the Town of Canadice, please contact Christopher Vastola, Town Supervisor.
