Town of Canadice - Water District #1
Public water is available in the Town of Canadice along the Honeoye Lake waterfront, County Road 36 (Honeoye West Lake Road) and North Old West Lake Road; from the Canadice-Richmond town line to the south end of Honeoye Lake.
The Town owns the system and it is operated on behalf of the Town by the Rochester Water Bureau from the Hemlock Upland Operations Center at the north end of Hemlock Lake.
Water meters are read every three months using remote drive-by radio. Readings are taken on approximately March 31, June 30, September 30 and December 31. No entry to the dwelling is required to read the meters. Water bills are mailed shortly after the meter readings to the address of the property owner of record (that is the same address to which property tax bills are mailed). Payment instructions and deadlines are included with the bill. Fees include a $35.00 quarterly base rate and $7.90 per 1000 metered gallons (.0079 per gallon), which increased to $8.00 per 1000 metered gallons (.0080) with the 2022 Budget. Full fee schedule here.
It is also possible for district residents to read their meters manually. The meters have the ability to detect extremely low levels of water flow which is useful for checking for slow leaks or for appliances that are not completely shut off. An instruction sheet is available at this link.
When the system went live in July of 2020 information was mailed to all district residents with instructions for how to connect to the system. If you are a new district resident wanting to connect to public water and the sign-up fee has not been paid, use the Billing & Administration contact information below to move forward with a new connection. A Water District Sign-up Form will be prepared and sent to you for review. The fee for a new connection is $300 and is required when the Form is returned to the Town Hall. (The reduced rate of $100 during the initial sign-up period ended September 30, 2020.) If the sign-up fee has been paid, use the Inspection & Installation contact information below.
Detailed specifications for service connections are available at the Town Hall or at this link. This information must be supplied to the private contractors that property owners select to install their service connections. Revisions were made to the specifications so make sure that your installer is working from the latest version, dated 6/28/19.
If you are selling or transferring property to a new owner, please get in touch with the Billing and Administration contact at the Town Hall to complete a final meter reading, transfer the water service to the new owner. There is a $100 transfer fee that applies.
The water supplied to the Canadice system originates from Hemlock & Canadice Lakes and is processed at the Rochester Water Bureau's Hemlock Lake Filtration Plant. The Water Quality Report generated by the Rochester Water Bureau also applies to the Canadice system. The most recent 2023 annual report for Canadice is available at this link.
